3、erallyspeaking,therearemanydifferencesalongwithsomesimilarities.DurationofClassesInAmericatoday,thestudentsattendclassesforanaverageoffivehoursaday,fivedaysaweek,fillingtheclassroomsfromkindergartentothe12thgrade.WhileinChina,accordingtomyownexperience,thestudents
4、oftenattendclassesforanaverageofeighthoursaday,nearlysixdaysaweek,fillingtheclassroomsfrompre-schooleducationtohighschool,excepttheuniversityandcollegewhenwearethesamewiththeAmericanstudents.Wespendfouryearsonuniversityorcollege.Thesestudentsarepartofoneoftheambit
5、iousundertakingsinthehistoryofeducationfortheAmericanmakeeffortstoeducateanentirenationalpopulation.Thegoalisandhasbeensincetheearlydecadesofthepublic—toachieveuniversalliteracyandtoprovideindividualswiththeknowledgeandskillsnecessarytopromoteboththeirownindividua
6、lwelfareaswellasthatofthegeneralpublic.StandardsandknowledgeforenteringacollegeSuccessfulapplicantsatbettercollegesareusuallychosenonthebasisof:(1)theirhighschoolrecords;(2)recommendationsformtheirhighschoolteachers;(3)theimpressiontheymakeduringinterviewsattheuni
7、versity;and(4)theirscoresonthe3SATs(ScholasticAptitudeTests).WhenstudentsinChinaareapplyingforcolleges,therehavebeenmostlydifferentstandardsforstudents.InmostpartsofChina,successfulapplicantsatsuchcollegesareusuallychosenonthebasisoftheirscoresonthecollegeentrance
