3、RTPCo.,andTiconaCorp.GEPlastics,DuPont,andA.Schulmanhavedevelopmentprogramsunderway.Andlastmonth,PolyOneenteredintoajoint-developmentagreementwithCoolPolymersinordertoutilizethelatter’scapabilitiesintooldesign,thermal-managementtesting,andinjectionmoldingofprototypeapplica
4、tions.Thermallyconductivecompoundsaregenerallynotconsideredtobedirectdrop-inreplacementsformetals.Instead,theyopenupabroadrangeofnewopportunitiesfor“thermalmanagement”applications.Partsmoldedoutofthisnewgenerationofmaterialscanreplacemetalsandceramicsinsomeapplications,and
5、non-conductiveplasticsinothers.Usesincludecustom-moldedheatsinksoncircuitboards,aswellastubingforheatexchangersinappliances,lighting,telecommunicationdevices,businessmachines,andindustrialequipmentusedincorrosiveenvironments.Heatsinksofteninvolveplasticovermoldedonametalhe
6、atpipe.Lightingapplicationsalsoincludereflectors,laser-diodeencapsulation,andfluorescentballasts.Automotiveheadlampreflectorsareindevelopment.Intemperaturesensorslikethermistors,thermallyconductiveplasticencapsulationcanhelpimprovetheresponseofthetemperaturesensoritself.Th
