4、iABSTRACTTheincreasingcomplexnatureoftoday’spowersystemscoupledwiththestrainthemassivepopulationgrowthisexertingonthesystemhasbeenamajorburdenforpowersystemoperatorsandengineers.Typicalreactionstothesetrendsincludesystemcapacityexpansionandloadmanagement.Howeverloadmanagementhasanaddedadv
5、antageoversystemcapacityexpansionduetoitslowermonetarycostandenvironmentallyfriendlynature.Amidsttheloadmanagementmeasuresadoptedinrecentyears,demandmanagementcontractshavebecomeavaluedmeasurenecessaryforpowersystemoperations.Inthisthesissoftcomputingschemesortechniquesaredeployedforpower
6、systemanalysisandalsofordeterminingdemandmanagementcontractvalues.Amidstthemanysoftcomputingschemesavailable,ArtificialNeuralNetworks(ANN)andSupportVectorMachines(SVM)areutilizedinthisthesis.Themajorattractionoradvantagesoftcomputingschemespossessistheirrealtimeapplicabilitycoupledwithfewe
