3、ionofPhilosophy,whichhewroteinprisonwhileawaitingexecution,andwhichwasafavouritesourceformedievalphilosophersandpoetslikeDanteandChaucer.Hisworksalsoincludealongseriesoflogicaltrans-lations,commentariesandmonographsandsomeshortbutdenselyarguedtheologicaltreatises,allofw
4、hichwereenor-mouslyinfluentialonmedievalthought.ButBoethiuswasmorethanawriterwhopassedonimportantancientideastotheMiddleAges.Theessayshere,byleadingspecialists,whichcoverallthemainaspectsofhiswritinganditsinflu-ence,showthathewasadistinctivethinker,whoseargu-mentsrepayc
