3、lyimportanttochangethedynamiccharacteristicsofrotatingmachinesinoperationsothattheexcessivevibrations,whichmayoccurparticularlywhenpassingthroughcriticalspeedsorunstableregions,canbeavoided.Semi-activetypeSFDsusingmagnetorheologicalfluid(MRfluid),whichrespondstoanappliedmagneticfieldwithacha
4、ngeinrheologicalbehavior,areintroducedinordertofinditsapplicationstorotatingmachineryasaneffectivedeviceattenuatingexcessivevibration.Inthispaper,asemi-activeSFDusingMRfluidisdesigned,testedandmodeledbymeansofdescribingfunctionanalysistoinvestigatethecapabilityofchangingitsdynamicpropertiess
5、uchasdampingandstiffness.IntroductionSFDshavebeenfrequentlyusedtoovercomestabilityandvibrationproblemsthatcannotbeadequatelyresolvedbyconventionalrolling-elementorjournalbearingsalone.OneofthekeydesignfeaturesinaSFDconfigurationistheintroductionofsupportflexibilityanddampinginthebearing/supp
6、ortstructure.Hence,thedynamiccharacteristicsofSFDplayanimportantroleinthedynamicresponseofarotorsystem.IndesigningaconventionalSFD,anoptimizeddampingvalueobtainedbytheconsiderationofthefirstforwardmodeisusedtoimprovethestabilityofthesystem.However,thistraditionaldesignstrategybecomesobsolete
7、sincethemodernrotatingmachineryhasastrongtendencyofhighoperatingspeed,highloadcapacityandlightweight.Itresultsinoperationofarotoratarotationalspeedbeyondseveralcriticalspeeds,leadingtotheexcessivevibrationproblemsoccurringwhentherotorpassesthrought
