1、Ladiesandgentlemen,HereweareattheformerImperialPalace!ThiswasthecenteroftheancientcityofBeijing,andoncehometo24emperorsfromtheMingdynastiesandtheQingdynasties.ItisnowknownasthePalaceMuseum,thelargestpalacecomplex(建筑群)intheworld.Itcoversabout72hectares(720,000squaremeters).Itissurroundedbya6-
2、meter-deepmoat(护城河)and10-meter-highwalls.Insidethewalls,therearemanyhallsand9999rooms.Eachwallhasagate.Itis750metersbetweenthegatesoftheeasternwallandwesternwall.Thereareuniqueandbeautifultowersonthefourcornersofthepalace.Theseaffordviewsoverboththepalaceandthecityoutside.(Fromthereyoucanhav
3、eagoodlook/bird’seyeviewofthepalaceandthecity).Itwasusedasanimperialpalaceforaboutfivecenturies,anditstillpreserversmanyraretreasuresandcuriosities(古董)(manypreciousthings).Today,theformerImperialPalaceisapublicmuseum,listedbyUNESCOasaWorldCulturalHeritagesitein1987.Whenweenterthroughthegate,
4、wemaygouponeofthefourtowersandthenwecanseetheoveralllayout.Rectangular(长方形)inshape,itisdividedintotwoparts,theOuterCourtandtheInnerCourt.WearenowstandinginthesouthernmostpartoftheOuterCourt.InfrontofusstandstheGateofSupermeHarmony.Thegateisguardedbyapairofbronzelions,symbolizingimperialpower
5、anddignity.(尊严).Theselionstatues(雕像)arethebestandthelargestoftheirtype.Theonetotheeastismale,playingwithaball.Thatrepresentsunityofthestate.Theotherisfemale,havingayounglionbesideher.Thatisasymboloflasting(永久的)imperialsuccession(延续).TheOuterCourtincludestheHallofSupremeHarmony(太和殿),andtheHal
6、lofCentralHarmony(中和殿),andtheHallofPreservingHarmony(保和殿).IntheOuterCourttheemperorexercisedhissupremepoweroverthenation.TheHallofSupremeHarmonyisthegrandestandmostimportanthallinthepalacecomplex.Itusedformostimportantactivities:theSpringFestival,theemperor’sbirthdayandenthronement.TheInnerC
