3、lkingaboutteachers.WhenMelindaandIlearnedhowlittleusefulfeedbackmostteachersget,wewereblownaway.Untilrecently,over98percentofteachersjustgotonewordoffeedback:Satisfactory.IfallmybridgecoachevertoldmewasthatIwas"satisfactory,"Iwouldhavenohopeofevergettingbetter.Ho

4、wwouldIknowwhowasthebest?HowwouldIknowwhatIwasdoingdifferently?Today,districtsarerevampingthewaytheyevaluateteachers,butwestillgivethemalmostnofeedbackthatactuallyhelpsthemimprovetheirpractice.Ourteachersdeservebetter.Thesystemwehavetodayisn'tfairtothem.It'snotfa

5、irtostudents,andit'sputtingAmerica'sgloballeadershipatrisk.SotodayIwanttotalkabouthowwecanhelpallteachersgetthetoolsforimprovementtheywantanddeserve.Let'sstartbyaskingwho'sdoingwell.Well,unfortunatelythere'snointernationalrankingtablesforteacherfeedbacksystems.So

6、Ilookedatthecountrieswhosestudentsperformwellacademically,andlookedatwhatthey'redoingtohelptheirteachersimprove.Considertherankingsforreadingproficiency.TheU.S.isn'tnumberone.We'renoteveninthetop10.We'retiedfor15thwithIcelandandPoland.Now,outofalltheplacesthatdob

7、etterthantheU.S.inreading,howmanyofthemhaveaformalsystemforhelpingteachersimprove?Elevenoutof14.TheU.S.istiedfor15thinreading,butwe're23rdinscienceand31stinmath.Sothere'sreallyonlyoneareawherewe'renearthetop,andthat'sinfailingtogiveourteachersthehelptheyneedtodev
