2、penedin1890.InfirmaryWardswereaddedin1907,andextendedin1925and1936.Laterfeaturesweretheremarkable“shelters”in1914forTBpatients,andtherecycledUSASouthPacificArmyHospitalof1943.GreenLaneHospitalfirstadmittedpatientsin1942.Attheendof2003inpatientcarewillmo

3、vetotheGraftonsiteofhospitals.ThehistoryoftheevolutionofGreenLaneHospitalhasbeenchronicledinseveralbookspreviously.NotsurprisinglytherehasbeenarapidevolutionofmedicalcareandtechnologyoverthedecadesatGreenLaneHospital.MoreremarkableishowoftenGreenLanehas

4、beenattheforefrontoforiginalmedicalresearchanddevelopmentbothinNewZealandandinternationally.Itseemedappropriatetorecordtheacademicoutputofthehospitalinasinglecollection.PublicationsfromGreenLanehavepredominantlycomefromcliniciansinwholeorpart-timehospit

5、alpractice.ThattherewerefewacademicpostsorlinkswiththeAucklandmedicalschoolmakesthecontributionfromGreenLaneevenmoreremarkable.Thereweretwomainideasforthisbook.Thefirstaimwastoproduceabookwhichisunashamedlyaretrospectivesalutetotheacademiccontributionof

6、GreenLaneHospital.Boundinaformwhichcouldbeonthebookshelforcoffeetable,thebookshouldbeaneasyreferencetobrowsethrough,reminisceandevenshowofftothoseinterested.Thesecondaimwastoprovideacomputerbasedtemplateofpublicationsfordepartmentsorindividualstousepros

7、pectivelywithareferencemanageroranequivalentelectronicindexingsystem.Themicrochipwillenableuseofthelistofpublicationsinavarietyofways.Forexampleanewregistrarorfellow,onarrivaltothedepartment,couldbegiventheupdateddatabaseasanintroductiontothedepartment.
