3、tsman,whoexemplifiesthedeeptiesandrespectbetweenournations. Idon'tknowwhathesaid,butIhopeitwasgood. (Laughter.) WhatI'dliketodoistomakesomeopeningcomments,andthenwhatI'mreallylookingforwardtodoingistakingquestions,notonlyfromstudentswhoareintheaudience,
4、butalsowe'vereceivedquestionsonline,whichwillbeaskedbysomeofthestudentswhoarehereintheaudience,aswellasbyAmbassadorHuntsman. AndIamverysorrythatmyChineseisnotasgoodasyourEnglish,butIamlookingforwardtothischancetohaveadialogue.Thisismyfirsttimetravelingt
5、oChina,andI'mexcitedtoseethismajesticcountry. Here,inShanghai,weseethegrowththathascaughttheattentionoftheworld--thesoaringskyscrapers,thebustlingstreetsandentrepreneurialactivity. AndjustasI'mimpressedbythesesignsofChina'sjourneytothe21stcentury,I'meag
6、ertoseethoseancientplacesthatspeaktousfromChina'sdistantpast. TomorrowandthenextdayIhopetohaveachancewhenI'minBeijingtoseethemajestyoftheForbiddenCityandthewonderoftheGreatWall. Truly,thisisanationthatencompassesbotharichhistoryandabeliefinthepromiseoft
7、hefuture. Thesamecanbesaidoftherelationshipbetweenourtwocountries. Shanghai,ofcourse,isacitythathasgreatmeaninginthehistoryoftherelationshipbetweentheUnitedStatesandChina. Itwashere,37yearsago,thattheShanghaiCommuniqueopenedthedoortoanewchapterofengagem
