5、fullnameof"AlmiranteOscarVielRompehielos"isratherlong."Rompehielos"meansIcebreaker.AMERICANTERNForthe2002-2003seasonthe"AmericanTern"tookontheroleof themainAmericanAntarcticsupplyvessel,replacingthelongserving"GreenWave"whichwasprovingbothunreliableandtoosmall.The"AmericanTern"wasbuiltinGe

6、rmany1990toFinnishIceclass1Aspecificationsandhasa50%greatercarryingcapacitythan"GreenWave".ThevesselisoperatedbyAmericanAutomarwhichhasacontractwiththeAmericanMilitarySealifeCommandwhichprovidesthecargocapacityfortheUSAntarcticProgram.Thiscontractwhichextendsuntil2010alsoemploysthevesselon
