4、dmodulationformatssuchasquadratureamplitudemodulation(QAM).Itsmainimpactistoreducethemaximalpowerthatcanbelaunchedintothefiber,therebylimitingopticalsignal-to-noiseratio(OSNR)levelsatthereceiver,reducingsystemmarginsandreducingthemaximumpropagationdistancethatcanbeachieved.In
5、thispaper,thenonlineartoleranceofanoptimizedpulseandaroot-raisedcosine(RRC)pulseiscomparedintermsofbiterrorrate(BER)performance,forvaryingpropagationdistancesandlaunchpowers.Experimentalresultsshowthattheoptimizedpulseconsiderablyreducesintra-channelnonlineareffectsinalonghau
6、l,10Gbauddual-polarization(DP)16-QAMsystemrelyingonerbium-dopedfiberamplifiers(EDFAs)andG.652fiber(noopticaldispersioncompensation).Theimprovednonlineartoleranceofthereturn-to-zero(RZ)pulseshapewasrecentlyhighlightedin[1],fora112Gb/sDP-quadraturephaseshiftkeying(QPSK)systemwi
7、thoutopticaldispersioncompensation.ComparingtheRZpulsetothenonreturn-to-zero(NRZ)pulse,theauthorsreportedanincreaseinsinglechannelmaximumpropagationdistanceof18%.However,theimprovednonlineartoleranceachievedusingtheRZpulsecomesattheexpenseofincreasedspectralcontent.Forinstanc
