5、,everylanguagehascolourwordsbywhichitsspeakerscategorizeandstructurethecolourcontinuum.Thenumberofcolourwordsandthemannerinwhichdifferentlanguagesclassifythecolourcontinuumdiffer.Bassa,alanguageofLiberia,hasonlytwotermsforclassifyingcolours;huiandziza(Gleason,I955:5)
6、.Huicorrespondsroughlytothecoolendofthespectrum(black,violet,blue,andgreen)andzizacorrespondstothewarmendofthespectrum(white,yellow,orangeandred);inBambara,oneofthelanguagesoftheCongoarea,therearethreefundamentalcolourwords:dyema,blemaandfima(Zahan,195I:52).Dyemaincl
