3、ract:Inautumnof2009,powderymildewbrokeoutoncucurbitsinChangchunAgri-Expon,JilinProvince,China.AlargenumberofchasmotheciaofthefunguswerefoundonplantsoffourgenerabelongingtoCucurbitaceae(Lagenaria,Cucumis,TrichosanthesandCucurbita).Asurveywasconductedtoevaluatetheresistanceoftheseplantstopowderymilde
4、wbasedondiseaseincidence,diseaseseverityanddiseaseindex.TheresultsindicatedthatalmostallvarietiescultivatedinCCAEGaresusceptibletothefungus.Morphologicalobservationshowsthattheconidiawereproducedinchainswithwelldevelopedfibrosinbodies,andchasmotheciacontainedasingleascuswith8ascosporesandawideapica
5、loculus(15.6-28.8μm).ThemorphologicalcharacteristicsofanamorphicandteleomorphicstagesrevealthatthisfungusbelongtoPodosphaeraxanthii.Themolecularanalysesofthenucleotidesequencesoftheinternaltranscribedspacer(ITS)rDNAregionsincludingthe5.8SrRNAgeneindicatethatthefunguswasclusteredinthecladeofP.xanthi
6、irecordedfromdifferenthostsandthesamehostfromdifferentregions.Theteleomorphsofpowderymildewoncucurbitsarerarelyfound.ItisthefirstreportofthesexualstagefoundonTrichosanthesintheworld,andonCucurbitapepoinJilinProvince,China.Moreover,WatermelonCitrulluslanatuswithoutchasmotheciawasanewhostrecordofthep
