2、ngtheplayer'slips.Wedemonstrateherethemostrecentdevelopmentsofourphysicalmodel,includingphysicalfunctioningandreal-timecontrolwithMIDIevents.Theseimprovementsresultingreatimprovementsofsoundqualityandmusicalexpressivity.Tobetterunderstandthephysicsofreallips,wehavebuiltaworki

3、nglatexmodelofapairoflips.Weshowthatthisarti cialmouthcanplayatrumpetlikearealtrumpetplayer.Wemakecomparisonsbetweennaturallyblowntrumpetsignals,arti cially-blowntrumpetsignals,andsimulationswithourcomputermodel.1.IntroductionInRodet[1],weexplainedanddemonstratedasimplereal-t

4、imemodeloftrumpet-likeinstru-ments.Theaimwasto ndthesimpleststructurewhichwouldexhibitthebasicpropertiesofthisclassofinstruments.InRodet[2],weshowedthatitispossibletopredictthebehaviorofasimpletrumpetmodelbyapplyingtheHopftheoremtothenonlineardynamicalsystemformedbythemodel.I

5、nthepresentpaper,wedescribethemostrecentimprovementstoourreal-timephysicalmodel.Theboreisrepresentedbyare ectionfunctioncomputedfromatrumpetinputimpedancewhichwehavemeasured.Weproposeseveralsimpli cationsofthere ectionfunctionaimedatdecreasingthecomputationalcostofthesimulati

6、on.Moreover,itallowsalowcostimplementationofvalvesaswellasofaslide.Wealsoproposeaclosuremodelofthelips.Thereal-timesimulationsystem,andtheplayinginterfacewhichwehavebuilt,allowthemusiciantoplaythemodelinaveryexpressiveandintuitiveway.Comparedtothebasicmodelwhichwasstudiedinth

7、escopeoftheHopftheorem(cf.Rodet[2]),thepresentmodelpossessesaverysimilardynamicalstructure.ThereforethestabilityresultsobtainedinRodet[2]arestillguaranteedwiththeimprovedmodel.Anotheraspectofourresearchconcernsthebuildingofalatexmodelofthelips.Thelipsareinsertedinasteelmouths
