2、ividdiscussionsaboutthespecificityofthelabourmarketandtheneedtodevelopadifferentapproach,awayfromthecurrentstandardmicroeconomics.Whatisoftenforgottenisthatthiswasnotalwaysthecase.Labourresearchintheinterwaryearswasquitedifferentfromwhatweregardpresentlyaslaboureconomics,beingmuchmorebroadlyandloose

3、lydefinedaslabourproblemsandlabourissuesandhavingmuchmorefragilelinkswiththeeconomicdiscipline,boththeoreticallyandinstitutionally.ThissituationwastransformedintheaftermathoftheWWII,witharedefinitionoflaboureconomicsresearchandtheprogressivecurtailmentoftheapparentisolationthatlabourresearchhadexper

4、iencedfromitseconomicfoundations.Thisincreasingclosenesswitheconomics,meaningneoclassicaleconomics,wascertainlyrelatedwiththeemergenceofanewgenerationoflabour(economists)researchersthatincludedthosethatwoulddominatethefieldforthefollowingtwodecades.1Preliminaryversionsofthispaperhavebeenpresentedina
