3、tionthatthebottleneckisnowbeingshiftedfromthenetworktohosts.Wehavepro-posedSSBT(ScalableSocketBufferTuning),whichisintendedtoimprovetheperformanceofWebserversbymaintainingtheirresourceseffectivelyandfairly,andvalidateditseffectivenessthroughthesimulationandimplementationexper-imen
4、ts.InthecurrentInternet,however,asignificantamountofWebdocumenttransferrequestsarethroughHTTPproxyservers.Accordingly,inthispaper,weproposeanewresourcemanagementschemeforproxyserverstoimprovetheirperformanceandtoreduceWebdocumenttransfertimeviatheproxyservers.Ourproposedschemehasth
5、efollowingtwocomponents.OneisanenhancedE-ATBT,whichisanenhancementversionofourpreviousSSBTforproxyserversbytakingaccountofdifferentcharacteristicsamongTCPconnections.TheotherisaschemethatmanagespersistentTCPconnectionsatproxyserverstoavoidnewlyarrivingTCPconnectionsfrombeingreject
6、edduetolackofresources.Wevalidateaneffectivenessofourproposedschemethroughsimulationexperi-ments,andconfirmthatitcanmanageproxyserverresourceseffectively.1IntroductionWiththerapidgrowthofInternetusers,manyresearcheffortshavebeendirectedtoavoidinganddissolvingnetworkcongestionagains
