2、sistingofacoolingmodule(condenser,radiator,fan,andshroud),headlamp,bumper,andcarrier.ThecoolingmoduleisacorepartoftheFEMbecauseofitsroleintheairconditioningandenginecoolingsystems.Theacousticperformanceofthecoolingfanisimportantaswell,whenconsideringhumansensitivitytonoise.Velocity(left)andpress

3、ure(right)contoursonthemid-planeoftheradiatorfanGeometryoftheFEMcoolingfansandshroudClose-upviewofthecoolingmoduleThecomponentthatwasexpectedtobethemainnoisesourceintheFEMconsistsofaradiatorfanandacoolingfan,bothenclosedinashroud.Thepresentworkconsideredonlytheradiatorfanoperatingwiththecondense

4、rfanfixed.Condenserandradiatorheatexchangerswereincludedinthesimulation,althoughtheradiatorheatexchangertankwasnot.Three-dimensionallaserscanningequipmentwasusedtoobtainadigitalmodeloftheradiatorfan.Fromthelaserscanner,acloudofpointswiththecoordinatesoftheexternalsurfaceofthefanbladewasgenerated

5、.Theresultinggeometrywasusedtobuildahybridmeshofabout2millioncells.Therotationspeedofthefanwassetat1875rpm.Thisspeedwaschosensothattheperiodofonebladepassingwouldbeabout4msforconvenienceofcheckingthesimulationresults.Aporousmediawasusedtorepresenttheheatexchanger.Usingcharacteristiccurvesforthep

6、ressuredropvs.velocity,viscousandinertiallosscoefficientswerecalculatedandthenusedinthenumericalsimulationasboundaryconditions.Thecomputationaldomainconsistedofarotationalzonecontainingtheradiatorfan,andlargestationaryzoneselsewhere.Forsteady-statesimulations,themultiplereferenceframes(MRF)model

7、wasused,andforunsteadysimulations,theslidingmeshmodelwasused.Twopartitionwallsatthefrontandrearfacesoftheradiatorwereusedsothatairisdrawnintotheradiatorfanthroughtheheatexchanger.Beyondthefanandshroudregion,thecomputationald
