3、ngresearchmethodsandprac-ticesofacademichistoriansintheUnitedStates,withtheobjectiveofidentifyingservicestobettersupportthem.Basedoninterviewswithdozensofhistorians,librarians,archivists,andothersupportservicesproviders,thisprojecthasfoundthattheunderlyingre
4、searchmethodsofmanyhistoriansremainfairlyrecognizableevenwiththeintroductionofnewtoolsandtechnologies,butthedaytodayresearchpracticesofallhistorianshavechangedfundamentally.IthakaS+Rresearchersidentifiednumerousopportunitiesforimprovedsupportandtraining,whic
5、harepresentedasrecommendationstoinformationservicesorganizationsincludinglibrariesandarchives,historydepartments,scholarlysocieties,andfundingagencies.Forarchives,werecommendongoingimprovementstoaccessthroughimprovedfindingaids,digitization,anddiscoverytooli
6、ntegration,aswellasexpandedopportunitiesforarchiviststohelphistoriansinterpretcollections,tobuildcon-nectionsamongusers,andtoinstructPhDstudentsintheuseofarchives.Forlibraries,werecommendongoingimprovementsintheprovisionofcollec-tions,includingbyaddressingch
7、angingformatpreferences,bycollaboratingtomaximizeaccesstocollections,andbyofferingdiscoveryenvironmentsthatincorporatethefullrangeofneededmaterials.Wealsorecommendthatlibrariesdevelopnewresearchsupportmodelsthataddresshistorians’relatedneedsforexpertiseatasu
