2、essesandenterprisesofallshapesandsizesaredeployingVoIPintheirnetwork;VoIPservicesarealsobeingofferedtoresidentialcustomers.Asaresult,VoIPisrapidlybecomingtheprimaryunderlyingarchitectureforaverycriticalinfrastructurenamely,thetelecommunicationnetwork.SecurityissuesinVoIPar
3、edifferentandinwaysmorecomplexthansecurityfordataapplications.IPtelephonyisacomplexapplicationinvolvingmultiplelayersoftheprotocolstack,requiringinteroperabilityamongdifferentnewandlegacyprotocols,andinteractionsamongmultiplenetworkelements.Existingvulnerabilitiesincluding
4、eavesdropping,connectionhijacking,callfraud,anddenial-of-servicewilltakeonnewformsinaconvergednetwork.Moreover,VoIPnetworksarepronetovirusandwormspreadingthroughtheirdatanetworkelements.TherearekindsofintermediateserversintheVoIPsystem,suchaslogservers,authenticationserver

6、hanismtosecuretheinformationpassedbetweentheUAandintermediaries,whichdoesnotinterferewithend-to-endsecurity.Inthispaper,thefundamentalsecurityproblemswithVoIPsystemarediscussedandanalyzed,andtheresolutionsforthesesecurityissuesaregivenlayerbylayer.AmechanismtoprovideEnd-to
