3、ofindtheperformancebottleneckofthesystemattheRTLlevels,sincetheperformanceverificationonlyoccurstowardsthebackendofthewholedesignflow.Therefore,anewmethodologyofsystemleveldesignisrequiredtoexploreinthearchitecturedesignspacegiventhehighcomplexityofvideodecodeSoCaswellasthenee
4、dtomakeadecisiononthesoftwareandhardwareparttionatearlystagesindesignflow.ThethesispresentsanElectronicSystemLeveldesignmethodforhardwareandsoftwareCo-DesignofMPEG-4DecodingSoC.AfteranalyzingthesoftwarealgorithmbottlenecksontheARMSoC-DesignerESLplatform,weobservethatthebottlen
5、eckofsystemliesinthearchitecturepartanddataflowrelatedmodel.Thenthesoftwareandhardwareispartitionedbasedonthefindingsaboutbottlenecks.Inaddition,theoptimizedhardwareacceleratormodelisbroughtupbasedonanalysisofthealgorithmdataflowandoperationmethods.Aspertheexperienceinvolvedin
6、thethesis,weunderstandthatitisnecessarytomakeaneffortonthedatapathdesignofmodulestogethighperformanceofthesystem.Withoff-chipSDRAMaccessmethodsandinternalmemoryusedinthearchitecturedesignofhardwarewithSystemC,theSoftware/HardwareCo-simulationofMPEG-4DecodingSoCisimplemented.It
