3、onareasathomeandabroadweregivencurrently．SomeVGAarchitecturesareelaboratedindetailsuchasVGAbasedonanalogmultiplier,VGAbasedonprogrammabletransconductance，VGAbasedonprogrammableload，VGAbasedonprogrammablefeedbackandVGAbasedonprogrammableattenuator．Aconstantgainopera

4、tionalamplifierandprogrammableattenuatorcascodearchitectureareusedtoimplementtheVGA．AnoperationalamplifieristhekeyoftheVGA．Adetailedanalysisofsomekindsofoperationalamplifiersispresented．Thearchitectureoftheoperationalamplifierisdeterminedfromadvantagesanddisadvanta

5、gesofoperationalamplifiersabove．Aself-biasingcurrentsinkdesignincreaseoutputswingoftheinputdifferentialamplifier．Adualcascodeamplifierimprovesthefrequencycharacteristicsoftheoperationalamplifier．Asourcefollowerreducestheoutputimpedanceandincreasecircuitdrivecapabil
