3、arateschools,andblackpeoplehadnorighttovoteinthesouthernstates.KingfoughtforpoliticalrightsforblackpeopleintheUSA.Bydoingthishesetanexampletotherestoftheworld.Hismessagewasthatblackpeopleshouldnotbeseparatedbutshouldbetreatedwithrespectinthesamewayasotherpeople.llhislifehebelievedthatitwasrigh

4、tandnecessarytodemandchangesinsocietyifpeopledidnothavetheircivilrights.Hebelievedthathecouldachievethatgoalbypeacefulactions,notbyviolence.HeledmanynonviolentdemonstrationsagainstracialdiscriminationandtheVietnamWar,duringwhichhehimselfwasoftenbeatenorarrestedbythepolice.OneofthesewasinBirmin

5、gham,Alabama.HousingconditionsforblacksinBirminghamwerebadandtherewerefewjobsforblacks.Kingwroteanimportantletterfromprison.“Wehavewaited340yearsforourrights!Wefinditdifficulttowait.This‘Wait’hasalmostalwaysmeant‘Never’”,hesaid.,Itwasduringthe“MarchonWashingtonD.C.”in1963thathegavethespeech“IH
