3、GPRSinordertoprovidebase-lineQoSforGPRSusers.Ontheotherhand,theexclusivereservationobviouslyreducesthecapacityofGSMtrafficsothathassignificantimpactontheperformanceofGSMtraffic(especiallyGSMhandovertraffic).Inthispaper,weprimarilyevaluatetheperformancedegradationofGSMhandovertraffi
4、cduetotheintroductionofGPRSinaGSM/GPRSnetworkwhenvariouspriorityschemesforhandovertrafficovernewcalltrafficareapplied.AsimplifiedcasestudyofaGPRS/GSMnetworkissimulatedbyusinganevent-drivensimulator.TheeffectofanincreasingGPRSpenetrationfactorontheperformanceofexistingGSMservicesisa
5、lsostudied.OurkeyresultsshowthattheperformanceofGSMhandovertrafficcanbesignificantlydegradedbythecapacityreductionresultingfromtheintroductionofGPRSbutcanbeamendedbyusingappropriatepriorityschemes.Keywords:GPRS,GSM,channelallocation,qualityofservice,handoverhandling1.IntroductionMa
