4、at-mentofurinehasattractedconsiderableattentioninthelastfewyears,anditisseenasaviableoptionforenhancingtheflexibilityofwastewatertreatmentsystem.Lit-eraturesproposetodevelopasustainablesystemfordenselypopulatedurbanareasbasedonthenewconceptsofurineseparation,
5、onsitetreatmentandin-sewertreat-menttechnologies.Unliketheexistingsystemthatpassivelycollectsandtreatssew-ageatgreattechnicaldifficultyandcost,thenewsystemeffectivelyseparatesurineatthesourceandtransformsitonsiteintonitrate/nitrite.Then,thegeneratedni-trate/n
6、itriteisfurtherconvertedintoharmlessnitrogengasinthesewerwheresolubleorganicsareco-removedwithlittleeffort.Sinceurinecontains80%nitrogenand40%phosphorusindomesticwastewater,butmakesuplessthanonepercentofthetotalwastewatervolume,effectivelytreat-mentofsource-s
7、eparatedurinecanprovideamorepromisingwaytosolveaboveproblems.Source-separatedurinetreatmenthasbeendividedintosevenmainpur-posetreatmentprocesses:hygienisation,volumereduction,P-recovery,N-recovery,stabilisation,nutrientremovalandhandlingofmicropollutants.This
8、studyfocusononsitetreatmenttechnologydevelopment:thenutrientremovalwithMBR.Experi-mentshavebeencarriedouttoinvestigatethefeasibilityofsource-separatedurinetreatmentwithMBRandtheoptimalope
