3、s,rangingfromversestoletters,oreventosomeofhispaintings.UnlikeWilliamLaw,anEnglishmysticlivinginthefirsthalfoftheeighteenthcentury,Blakedidnotleaveusanyformulateddoctrinesontheessentialelementsofmysticism.Nevertheless,wecanstilltracethegrowthofhisspirituallife,ormysticallife,inabulkof“mysterious”wo
4、rksheleftus.Thethesisconsistsofthreechapters.Thefirstchapterisageneralsurveyovertheessentialcharacteristicsofmysticism.Thedefinitionofmysticism,thoughimpossibletoexecute,willstillbegiven.Mysticismwillbeexploredfromtwomajorperspectives:MysticApprehensionandMysticWay.Thefirstisaboutthemeansbywhichmys
5、ticsemploytoapprehendtheSupremeReality.Theseincluderecollection,Quietandcontemplation.TheyareputundertheheadofMysticGenius,theabilitiesparticularlycultivatedbymysticsforadeepercommunionwiththeirObjectoflove.InMysticApprehensionwewillalsodiscussoverthemostcontroversialphenomenoninone’smysticallifeth
