3、iddynamics(CFD)procedures,requireaccurateidentificationandquantificationofgeometricparameters,suchasvolume,gradientandcross-section,leakageflowandblow-holeareas.Historically,someofthegeometriccharacteristicshavebeenneglected,orapproximatedwhencalculationaccuracywasnotessential.However,mores
4、ophisticatedmodelsmaylosesomeoftheiradvantagesifaccurategeometriccharacteristicsarenotincludedinthem.Theworkpresentedinthispaperisaimedtoenhancetheaccuracyofgeometriccalculations.Theusualgeometriccalculationproceduresaregivenandmodifiedwherenecessary.Theresultsarecomparedwithmodelsgenerated
5、by3DComputerAidedDesign(CAD),softwarepackages,fromwhichimprovementsintheaccuracyofpredictionscanbedemonstrated.1.INTRODUCTIONPioneeringworkintheaccuratepresentationofscrewcompressorgeometrywasgiveninthecomprehensivescrewcompressortextbookbySakun(1960)andthescrewcompressorhandbookbyAmosov(19
6、77),whileRinder(1979)presentedasimilarwork,givenonthebasisof,themostpopularscrewcompressorprofileofthattime.Notlongafter,Singhetal.(1984,1988and1990)presentedaseriesofthreepapersdealingmoreorlesssuccessfullywithscrewcompressorgeometry,whileSangfors(1984)forthefirsttimepublishedtheprinciples
7、ofdifferentialmodellingofthescrewcompressorthermodynamicprocess.Stosicetal.(1986),publishedacomprehensiveapplicationofsuchadifferentialmodel,previouslywidelyusedinthemodellingofinternalcombustionenginesandreciprocatingcompressors,tocalculatescrewcompress
