3、ldofpowerharvestinghasexperiencedsignificantgrowthoverthepastfewyearsduetotheever-increasingdesiretoproduceportableandwirelesselectronicswithextendedlifespans.Currentportableandwirelessdevicesmustbedesignedtoincludeelectrochemicalbatteriesasthepowersource.Theuseofbatteriescanbetrouble

4、someduetotheirlimitedlifespan,thusnecessitatingtheirperiodicreplacement.Inthecaseofwirelesssensorsthataretobeplacedinremotelocations,thesensormustbeeasilyaccessibleorofadisposablenaturetoallowthedevicetofunctionoverextendedperiodsoftime.Energyscavengingdevicesaredesignedtocapturethea

5、mbientenergysurroundingtheelectronicsandconvertitintousableelectricalenergy.Theconceptofpowerharvestingworkstowardsdevelopingself-powereddevicesthatdonotrequirereplaceablepowersupplies.Anumberofsourcesofharvestableambientenergyexist,includingwasteheat,vibration,electromagneticwaves,w

6、ind,flowingwater,andsolarenergy.Whileeachofthesesourcesofenergycanbeeffectivelyusedtopowerremotesensors,thestructuralandbiologicalcommunitieshaveplacedanemphasisonscavengingvibrationalenergywithpiezoelectricmaterials.Thisarticlewillreviewrecentliteratureinthefieldofpowerharvestingandpr
