3、Abstract:Deepknowledgeofintakeprocessaerodynamicsisfundamentaltodevelopmentandoptimisationofmoderninternalcombustionengines.Inparticular,theintakeportflowstronglyaffectsbothvolumetricefficiency,i.e.poweroutput,andin-cylinderchargemotionwhichinfluencescombustionbehavi
4、ourandpollutantsformation.Thepaperpresentsanexperimentalandnumericalstudyofintakeairflowthroughportsandcylinderinafour-valvespent-roofmotorbikehigh-speedengine.Averysimplemechanicaldevicespecificallydesignedforquickandlow-costmeasuresofswirlandtumblemotionsinsteady-s
5、tatedischargeflowcoefficienttestrigswasdevelopedandcheckedontwotwin-cylinderstockproductionheadsfeaturingintakeportsdesigntypicalofmodernmotorbikehighspeedSIengines.Simultaneousmeasuresofdischargeflowandtumblecoefficientsprovedthelimitederrorduetodeviceinsertion.Adet
6、ailedCFDmodelofcylinder,intakeports,andmanifoldswithintheengineheadwasbuildandexperimentallyvalidatedbydischarge-flowcoefficientmeasurementsperformedatdifferentvalvelift.Thesensitivitytogridrefinementandtheperformanceofarealizablek-εandamodifiedk-ωturbulencemodelsisi
7、nvestigated.Thenumericalmodelisusedtoevaluatethereliabilityoftumblemeasurements.ThecorrelationbetweenexperimentaldataandthewholeCFDvelocityfieldwithincylindervolumeisverygoodprovingthatthedeviceappearswell-suitedforrapidandreliableanalysisofaerodynamicbulkperformance
