2、ucher1.AbstractTheresearchprojectaimstoanalyseSwissurbanisedlandscapesinordertoestablishatheoreti-calbasisforaspecificdesignapproachinthefieldoflandscapearchitecture.Itproceedsfromthehypothesisthatlandscapearchitecturetheorylacksandurgentlyneedsspecialconceptsandsp
3、ecialcategoriesforurbanagglomerations.Atpresent,greatchangesaretakingplaceintheSwisslandscape,namely:intheurbanag-glomerationsand,aboveall,intheirperipheries.Asthislandscapeservesasthehabitatfortwo-thirdsoftheSwisspopulation,considerableimportancemustbepaidtoitsdes
4、ign.Inthefaceofthecurrentchangesinthislandscape,theevidentdiscrepancybetweentheexpecta-tionsoftheplannersanddesignersandthevisibleresultsinthelandscapeareseenasreflect-ingaproblematicinabilitytocontrolthesituation.Inthelandscapesofurbanagglomerations,thereclearlyex
5、istsitesthathavenotbeentakenintoconsiderationbylandscapearchitectsandplanners,andhaveconsequentlynotbeenconsideredintheirdesigns.Thereisalackofvisionforthesesitesandatheoreticalconceptfortheirdesignmissing.Inthefieldsofarchitec-tureandurbandevelopment,particularsta
6、ndpointsandtheoriesintowndevelopmenthavebeenformulated.However,thesedisciplinesdealwithdifferentquestions,suchasthoseofori-entationandsymbolism;andevenwheretheydohavealandscapecomponenttheyhavenothingtosayaboutitsdesign-orienteddevelopment.Thisresearchprojectadvanc
7、esthehypothesisthatthetheoryoflandscapearchitecturelacksandurgentlyneedsspecialconceptsandspecialcategoriesforurbanagglomerations,tode-velopastandpointandadesign-orientedapproachforsuchareas.Withintheframeworkofempiricalresearch,exemplarysiteswillbeobservedinordert
