3、ributedmostlyinthetemperateregionandontheTibetanPlateau,andscatteredinthewarm-temperateandtropicalregions.Basedonthemedianestimate,vegetation,soilandtotalcarbonstorageofgrasslandsinChinawere3?06,41?03and44?09PgC,respectively.Vegetationhadlowcarbonstorageandmostcarbonwasstoredinsoils.Ofthefourtypesof
4、regionsthathavegrasslands,alpineregion(54?5%)andtemperateregion(31?6%)holdmorethan85%ofthetotalgrasslandcarbon(inbothvegetationandsoils)inChina.Consideringspecifictypeswithinthesetworegions,threegrasslandtypes,alpinemeadow(25?6%),alpinesteppe(14?5%)andtemperatesteppe(11%)constitutedmorethanhalfofall
5、carbonstoredinChinasgrasslands.Ingeneralandregardlessofregionalvegetationtypes,steppes(38?6%)andmeadows(38?2%)madeupmorethan2/3oftotalgrasslandcarbon.Thecarbonstorageinalpinegrasslandsmayhaveasignificantandlong-livedeffectonglobalCcycles.Thisstudyestimatedmorecarbonstorageinvegetationandlessinsoilst
6、hanpreviousstudies.Thedifferencesofgrasslandcarbonbetweenthisstudyandtwopreviousstudiesweredueprobablytofourreasons,i.e.differentestimationmethods,differentclassificationsystemsofgrasslands,differentareasofgrasslands,anddifferentcarbondensities.Chinasgrasslandscoveronly68%oftotalworldgrasslandareaan
