2、dtoDengQidong(email:qddeng@yahoo.com.cn)ReceivedNovember14,2002AbstractDuringthelast20years,studiesonactivetectonicsinChinahaveenteredanewquan-titativeresearchstageandmadeagreatprogress.Summingupthequantitativeresults,aMapofActiveTectonicsofChinaonthescaleof1︰4millionhasbee
3、ncompiled.Inthemapalltypesofactivetectonicsandtheirkinematicparametersarereflectedinpossibledetail,suchasactivefaults,activefolds,activebasins,activeblocks,volcanoes,andearthquakes.Thispapersumma-rizesthebasiccharacteristicsofactivetectonicsofChina.TheHimalayaMountainsandTa
4、iwanIslandaremajorplateboundarieswheretheslipratesarelargerthan15mm/a.Tectonicactivityinthecontinentalintraplateregionischaracterizedbyblockmotion.Thecrustandlithosphereintheregionweredissectedintoblockswithdifferentorders.OfthemtheQinghai-Xizang(Tibet),Xin-jiang,andNorthCh
5、inablockregionsexhibitthemostrecenttectonicactivity.Thekinematicchar-acteristicsofmorethan200activetectoniczonesindicatethattheintraplatetectonicactivityrepresentsablockmotionatalimitedlowrate.Horizontalslipratealongthetectonicboundarybeltsbetweentheblocksisgenerallylesstha
