3、sofmergeractivityandhowinnovationsinfinancing,ownershiporotherconsiderationswereaffectingcontrolwithinfirms.Fromthemorethan100paperssubmittedforconsiderationintheSpecialIssue,weselectedeightforinclusioninthisvolumeandforpresentationattheConferenceonCorporate

4、Control,MergersandAcquisitionsheldinAtlantainApril2008(cosponsoredbytheJCFandtheLeadershipResearchConsortiumoftheTerryCollegeofBusinessattheUniversityofGeorgia).WehavealsoincludedtwocommentariesfromtheConferenceandageneralreviewpaperonbiddingstrategies.Inthi

5、sarticle,wesummarizetheresearchfromtheConference,whichwebelieverepresentsimportantcontributionstoourknowledgeofcorporatecontrol.Wefollowthisreviewwithageneralanalysisofrecentresearchoncorporatecontrol.Wenotedacommonthemeinthearticlessubmittedandinthoseeventu

6、allyacceptedfortheConferenceandSpecialIssue–anincreasedemphasisontheroleofinternalcontrolfactorsthatfallunderthebroadrubricofcorporategovernance,ratherthanfocusingprimarilyonmergersandacquisitionsthemselves.Theincreasedemphasisoninternalcontrolconsiderations
