2、d“bigdata”acrossallsectorsofsociety.Bigdatagenerallyrefertomassivevolumesofdatanotreadilyhandledbytheusualdatatoolsandpracticesandpresentunprecedentedopportunitiesforadvancingscienceandinform-ingresourcemanagementthroughdata-intensiveapproaches.Theeraofbigdatan
3、eednotbepropelledonlyby“bigscience”–thetermusedtodescribelarge-scaleeffortsthathavehadmixedsuccessintheindividual-drivencultureofecology.Collectively,ecologistsalreadyhavebigdatatobolsterthescientificeffort–alargevolumeofdistributed,high-valueinformation–butman
4、ysimplyfailtocontribute.Weencourageecologiststojointhelargerscientificcommunityinglobalinitiativestoaddressmajorscientificandsocietalproblemsbybringingtheirdistributeddatatothetableandharnessingitscollectivepower.Thescientistswhocontributesuchinformationwillbea
