2、prisesmushroomedinChinain2004whenallrestrictionsonforeigncapital’sentryintoChina’sretailindustrywerelifted.In2009,amongthetop100chainretailersinChina,theeightforeign-fundedsupermarketsincludingRT-Mart,CarrefourandWal-MartachievedtotalsalesofRMB175.71billion,withatotalof785stores,whilethe31dome

4、upermarketsgenerallyfirstlydeploystoresinmajorcities,andthengraduallyexpandtowardsthesecondandthird-tiercities;domesticsupermarketsmostlyrootinacentralregion,andthenradiatetowardstheperipheryareas.Forexample,Better-LifeisdistributedinHunanandJiangxi,LianhuainShanghai,NewHuaduinFujian,Wu-Martan

5、dJingkelonginNorthChina,andMeet-AllinShanxirespectively.AlongwithChina’seconomytransitionandincreasingresidentincome,thedevelopmentofChina’ssupermarketindustrywillhavethefollowingtrendsinthefuture:Firstly,thebigcity-dominatedindustrydevelopmentwillevolveintothesimultaneousdevelopmentamongthefi

6、rst-tier,second-tierandthird-tiercities,thusthesecond-tierandthird-tiercitieswillhaveabiggerspaceforgrowth.Secondly,thesuburbanizationofbigcitieswillpromotetheprosperityofthesuburbansupermarketmarket.Theurbanexpansionandpopulationgrowthwillexpandtheurbansurroundingareas,thusthecenterofretailin
