3、oScontrolmechanismshavebeenproposedfordistributedmultimediasystems.However,insuchsystemsQoScontrolisdonebythesystemorbyitsusers,itisdesiredthatappropriateQoScontrolisspeci edinthescenariowhichrepresentscontentsofthepresentation.Itisnotsucientlydiscussedhowtodealw
4、ithsuchspeci cations.Inthispaper,weproposeanewscenariodescriptionlanguageforamultimediapresentation,called"MSDL-II",whichcanspecifyQoScontrolschemealongwitheachscene.KeywordsMultimedia,Scenariodescription,QoSparameters,QoScontrol1IntroductionRecently,highspeednetw
5、orkandmultimediaworkstations/personalcomputersbringusapossibilitytore-alizedistributedmultimediaapplicationssuchasavideo-on-demandsystemoradesktopvideoconferencing.WWW(WorldWideWeb)[1]andGopher[9]areexamplesofdistributedmultimediaapplicationsinwideareanetwork.Such
6、kindofapplicationscanbecomesophisticatedtoadistributedmultimediainformationserviceswhereaclientretrievesmultimediadatafromdi erentserversonthe
yandplaysbackatclient'ssiteinanintegratedfashion[2,3]whenconnectingwithhighspeedwideareanetworks.Thus,thebasisforadistrib
7、utedmultimediapresentationsystemhavebeenprovided.Sincecurrentmultimediaapplicationsrunonvarioussystemenvironmentsuchasnetworks,server/clientmachinesandoperatingsystems,animportantsceneofavideomaterialmaybeskippedoranimportantportionofalecturemaynotbeheardduetoinst
