1、CECiscomingtoHDMI.quantumdatawhitepaperDesigningCECintoyournextHDMIProductThereisalittle-knownone-wirebussnakingitswaythroughyourHDMIproducts.Thebus,knownastheconsumerelectronicscontrol(CEC)bus,isthebasisforanewlevelofautomaticcontrolinHDMI-interfacedsystems.WiththerecentreleaseofaCECcompli-ance
2、testspecificationandcommercialCECtestequipment,consumerelectroniccom-paniesarenowpoisedtoimplementCECintheirproducts.Infact,newCEC-enabledproductsareexpectedtobeginshippinginApril2006.TheCECbusallowsallproductsinthesystemThebasictechnologyoftheCECbusoriginatedinEurope,ontheSCARTinterface,topoten
3、tiallydiscoverwhereit’sbeenusedwithgreatsuccessformanyyears.HDMIborrowsandimprovesonandcommunicatewitheachotherthebasicSCARTtechnology,allowingAVproductstodiscoverandcommunicatewithoneanotheracrossasystem.CECmakespossibleglobalcontrols,whichbuildonexist-ingpoint-to-pointE-DDC-based“plug&play”aut
4、omationtominimizethenumberofIRremotesandkey-pressesrequiredforbasicoperationofasystem.CECenablesglobalsim-plified(singleremote)CECassumesthatallAVsourceproductsinasystemaredirectlyorindirectlyconnectedsystemcontrolinHDMI-interfacedsystemstoa“root”display.HDMIconnectionsformanup-side-downtree,wit
