3、hisistostartfromthethingswhicharemoreknowableandobvioustousandproceedtowardsthosewhichareclearerandmoreknowablebynature;forthesamethingsarenot'knowablerelativelytous'and'knowable'withoutqualification.Sointhepresentinquirywemustfollowthismethodandadvancefromwhat
4、ismoreobscurebynature,butclearertous,towardswhatismoreclearandmoreknowablebynature.Nowwhatistousplainandobviousatfirstisratherconfusedmasses,theelementsandprinciplesofwhichbecomeknowntouslaterbyanalysis.Thuswemustadvancefromgeneralitiestoparticulars;foritisawho
5、lethatisbestknowntosense-perception,andageneralityisakindofwhole,comprehendingmanythingswithinit,likeparts.Muchthesamethinghappensintherelationofthenametotheformula.Aname,e.g.'round',meansvaguelyasortofwhole:itsdefinitionanalysesthisintoitsparticularsenses.Simi
