1、EIC/FIDICQuestionnaire:TheuseoftheFIDICRedBookWillHughes,UniversityofReading,UKSummaryoffindingsThissurveywasundertakenattherequestofEIC(EuropeanInternationalContractors)andFIDIC(FédérationInternationaledesIngénieurs-Conseils).AspartoftheprocessofrevisingtheRedBookandharmonizingitwithot

2、herFIDICcontracts,thepurposesweretoexaminecontractusers’feelingsaboutcontractpolicyingeneralandabouttheRedBookinparticular;andtoconsiderthewaythattheFIDICRedBookisusedinpracticeinordertodiscoverwhatchangesmightbeusefulforthosewhousethecontract.Asurveyquestionnairewaspreparedinconsultati

3、onwithEICandFIDIC.ThequestionsweretestedandrefinedbydiscussingthemwithexperiencedpractitionersandthequestionnairewasdistributedaroundtheworldwiththeassistanceofEICandFIDICthroughtheirmemberassociations.Becausethequestionnairesweredistributedtoorganizationswhosubsequentlyduplicatedtheman

4、dforwardedthemtoothers,itisnotpossibletogaugehowmanyquestionnairesweredistributed.Atotalof204completedquestionnaireswerereceived.Contractuse•Countriesofrespondents:Responsescamefrom38countries.MostresponsescamefromUKandWesternEurope,althoughthebestrepresentedcountryisMalaysia.•Sizeofpro

5、ject:ThemajorityofprojectsreportedwereintheregionofUS$10-100m.Only4%ofthereportedprojectswerelessthanUS$1mand24%ofthemwereaboveUS$100m.•Typeofwork:Justoverhalfofthereportedprojectsconsistlargelyofworkaboveground.Offshoreworkconstitutedthenextmostcommoncategory,andundergroundtheleast.•Ex

6、tentofamendment:Mostcontractsincorporateamendments,presumablyinaproject-specificPartII.Inthissample,only16%hadlessthanfourclausesamended.29%ofcontractshad20-29clausesamendedand26%ofthemhadmorethan30clausesamended.•Maindeparturesfromstandard:Clause61wasleastamended.Clauses10,14,21,67and7
