3、lemscontinuetoexacerbate.APassiveOpticalNetwork(PON)isatechnologyviewedbymanyasanattractivesolutiontothisproblem.Inthisstudy,weproposethedesignandanalysisofaPONarchitecturewhichhasanexcellentperformance-to-costratio.Thisarchitectureusesthetime-divisionmultiplexing(TDM)approachtodeliverdataencaps
4、ulatedinEthernetpacketsfromacollectionofOpticalNetwork1Units(ONUs)toacentralOpticalLineTerminal(OLT)overthePONaccessnetwork.TheOLT,inturn,isconnectedtotherestoftheInternet.Asimulationmodelisusedtoanalyzethesystem’sperformancesuchasboundsonpacketsdelayandqueueoccupancy.Then,wediscussthepossibilit

6、tsinthesignals’pathfromsourcetodestination.Theonlyinteriorelementsusedinsuchnetworksarepassivecombiners,couplers,andsplitters.PONtechnologyisgettingmoreandmoreattentionbythetelecommunicationindustryasthe“lastmile”solution[1,2].AdvantagesofusingaPONforlocalaccessnetworksarenumerous:·APONallowsfor
