2、rofpolygonsinthevirtualobjectandimage-basedsimplificationreplacestheobjectwithanimage.Ourmodelintegratesandextrapolatesexistingaccuracyestimates,enablingthecomparisonofdifferentsimplificationmethodsinordertochoosethemostefficientmethodinagivensituation.Themod
3、elcomparesdatatransferandrenderingloadofthemethods.Bytesizeandexpectedlifetimeofsimplificationsarecalculatedasafunctionofthedesiredvisualqualityandthepositionandmovementoftheviewer.Anexampleresultisthatintypicalviewingandrenderingconditionsandforobjectswithar

6、implifiedpolygonmodels[Schroeder92]havebeendevelopedtoadaptthecomplexityofascenetotheavailablebandwidthandcapacityoftherenderingengineandnetwork.Thesesimplificationandimpostertechniquesoftenpreserve,foragivenviewpoint,crucialaspectsoftheobjectssuchascontouran
7、dfrontimage,whilesacrificinggeometricaccuracyforotherviewpoints.Thisintroducesthenotionoflifetimeforthesimplifiedrepresentation:astheviewpointchanges,thevisualdistortionwillgrowandwillrunthesimplificationobsolete.Therepresentationthenwillhavetoberefreshedorre
