3、elcomparesdatatransferandrenderingloadofthemethods.Bytesizeandexpectedlifetimeofsimplificationsarecalculatedasafunctionofthedesiredvisualqualityandthepositionandmovementoftheviewer.Anexampleresultisthatintypicalviewingandrenderingconditionsandforobjectswithar

4、adiusintheorderofonemeter,impostertechniquescanbeusedatviewingdistancesabovefifteenmeters.Belowthat,simplifiedpolygonobjectsarerequired,andbelowonemeterdistancethefull-resolutionvirtualobjecthastoberendered.Anelectronicversionofthemodelisavailableontheweb.IND

6、implifiedpolygonmodels[Schroeder92]havebeendevelopedtoadaptthecomplexityofascenetotheavailablebandwidthandcapacityoftherenderingengineandnetwork.Thesesimplificationandimpostertechniquesoftenpreserve,foragivenviewpoint,crucialaspectsoftheobjectssuchascontouran

7、dfrontimage,whilesacrificinggeometricaccuracyforotherviewpoints.Thisintroducesthenotionoflifetimeforthesimplifiedrepresentation:astheviewpointchanges,thevisualdistortionwillgrowandwillrunthesimplificationobsolete.Therepresentationthenwillhavetoberefreshedorre
