3、s.Ourperformancetestingshowedthatthelatencycosts,whenusingqueuesinthisway,wereinthesameorderofmagnitudeasthecostofIOoperationstodisk(RAIDorSSDbaseddisksystem)–dramaticallyslow.Iftherearemultiplequeuesinanend-to-endoperation,thiswilladdhundredsofmicrosecon
4、dstotheoveralllatency.Thereisclearlyroomforoptimisation.Furtherinvestigationandafocusonthecomputersciencemadeusrealisethattheconflationofconcernsinherentinconventionalapproaches,(e.g.queuesandprocessingnodes)leadstocontentioninmulti-threadedimplementation
5、s,suggestingthattheremaybeabetterapproach.ThinkingabouthowmodernCPUswork,somethingweliketocall“mechanicalsympathy”,usinggooddesignpracticeswithastrongfocusonteasingaparttheconcerns,wecameupwithadatastructureandapatternofusethatwehavecalledtheDisruptor.Tes
6、tinghasshownthatthemeanlatencyusingtheDisruptorforathree-stagepipelineis3ordersofmagnitudelowerthananequivalentqueue-basedapproach.Inaddition,theDisruptorhandlesapproximately8timesmorethroughputforthesameconfiguration.Theseperformanceimprovementsrepresent
7、astepchangeinthethinkingaroundconcurrentprogramming.Thisnewpatternisanidealfoundationforanyasynchronouseventprocessingarchitecturewherehigh-throughputandlow-latencyisrequired.AtLMAXwehavebuiltanordermatchingengine,real-timeriskmanagement,andahighlyavailab
