3、snapshotsaswellasclassicchallengesassociatedwithusingsnapshottechnologiesinpureharddiskdrive(HDD)–basedarrays.ItthenlooksatasnapshotimplementationfromEMConitsXtremIOall-flasharray(AFA),exploringtheadvantagesthatflashmediaandanewdesignpointcanprovideintheuseofsnapshottechnology

5、umedata.Therearetwobasictypesofpersistent,disk-based,point-in-timecopies:snapshotsandclones.Snapshotsarelogicalcopiesofdataataspecificpointintimesotheycanbecreatedveryquickly.Theycanalsobeveryspaceefficientbecausenodataiscopiedupfront—justmetadatarepresentingthelogicalvolume.S

6、napshotscanbereadonlyorread/write.Thecreationofaread-onlysnapshoteffectivelyrequireslittleornospace.Duringthecreationofaread/writesnapshot,somestoragecapacityisoftenreservedtoaccommodatetheexpectedchangestothewriteablesnapshotvolume.Thus,thereisasmallamountofup-frontspaceconsu
