4、lored.Thenewmodalitiesoflargescaleinteraction,thehugesizeofcommunities,theimmensebroadnessthematictopicsandthefactthatmostusersareyoungsters(thosewhowillshapethesocietyinafewdecades)areworthwhileinvestigatingitspotentialforforward-lookingstudies.Asastartingpoint,twomajoroptions
5、forexploitingsocialnetworksforthispurposeseemtoemerge:oneasaninformationsourcefor"weaksignals"ofupcomingtrendsandtheotheroneasanovellarge-scaleinteractivetoolthatcouldbeemployedwithinforesightactivities.Withregardtothefirstone,communicationexchangeofthoughtsandopinionsamongstpa
6、rticipantsintheforumsoffersaformidablesourceofinformationandknowledge.Thisinformationbecomesevenmoresignificantifjuxtaposedagainstcontributorprofilesandbehaviouralpatterns.Insuchway,emergingsocialtrendsmightbedetected.Similarapproachesarealreadyusedinmarketresearchandcouldbetra
