3、rstandingofitsmechanicalproperties.ThispaperpresentsageneralRUC(repeatedunitcell)approachfortheanalysisofballoonexpandablestentswithvarioustypesofclosedcells.TheapplicationoftheunifiedperiodicboundaryconditionsontheRUCmodelofthestentisformulated.Numericalanalysisisperf
4、ormedbytheABAQUSFEMpackage.StentsofthePalmaz-SchatztypeandNIRtypewithV-orS-shapedlinksareanalyzedwiththeRUCmodelsandthenumericalresultsagreewellwiththoseobtainedbymuchlargermodelsinavailablepublications.Theglobaldeformationpatternandthestressdistributionoftheentirest
5、entcanalsobeobtainedbyageometricaltessellationorassemblingofthedeformedRUCs.Itisfoundfromthenumericalanalysisthatthediameterofthestentduringdeploymentchangesslowlyatthestartandincreasesdrasticallywhentheinternalpressurereachesacriticalvaluewhereyieldinghingesareformed
6、.V-andS-stentsaremucheasiertoexpandthanthePalmaz-Schatzstent.However,theforeshorteningsoftheV-stentandS-stentarenoticeable.TheadvantagesoftheRUCapproacharethattheexistingperiodicitiesinthestentstructurearebetteranddirectlyrepresentedbyapplyingtheperiodicboundarycondit
