4、eoftheXigudistrictinthecityofLanzhou.First,theregion’slandscapeofTMimagewasclassifiedintotentypesoflandusepatterns,theyare:farmland,orchard,grassland,wood2land,scatteredwoodland,bareland,waterarea,urbanarea,ruralsettlement,andindustrialareafarfromsettlement.Next,thecla
5、ssifiedinformationtogetherwithsurveyeddatawasservedastheinputsofageographicalinformationsystem.Then,adigitalelevationmodel(DEM)andlandscapemosaicmapwasprocessedinaGISenvironment,whichwasfollowedbyasubdivisionoftheregionintofourcategories:valleyarea,northernmountainarea
6、,southernmountainarea,anddaisarea.Finally,eachofthoseareaswasanalyzedintermsofdiversity,dominance,fragmentation,isolationandfractaldimension,withtheirresultsgivenbelow:(1)Duetoitsflatterrain,convenienttransportation,shortdistancetorivers,thevalleyareahasbeenrecognizeda
7、sthecenterofhumanactivities.Thisareaisrevealedwithhighvaluesinthediversityandfragmentationindicesaswellasalowdominancefigureasresultsofitsflatterrain,lowaltitudeandconvenientirrigation.Though,fewlandscapesshowstrongdominance,theirdiversityindicesareusuallylowduetomount
