3、ard,butIgotbyatthelevelofinter-Collegecompetition.InmythirdyearatOxford,however,InoticedthatIseemedtobegettingmoreclumsy,andIfelloveronceortwicefornoapparentreason.ButitwasnotuntilIwasatCambridge,inthefollowingyear,thatmyfathernoticed,andtookmetothefamilydoctor.Hereferredmeto
4、aspecialist,andshortlyaftermy21stbirthday,Iwentintohospitalfortests.Iwasinfortwoweeks,duringwhichIhadawidevarietyoftests.Theytookamusclesamplefrommyarm,stuckelectrodesintome,andinjectedsomeradioopaquefluidintomyspine,andwatcheditgoingupanddownwithx-rays,astheytiltedthebed.Aft
5、erallthat,theydidn'ttellmewhatIhad,exceptthatitwasnotmultiplesclerosis,andthatIwasana-typicalcase.Igatheredhowever,thattheyexpectedittocontinuetogetworse,andthattherewasnothingtheycoulddo,exceptgivemevitamins.Icouldseethattheydidn'texpectthemtohavemucheffect.Ididn'tfeellikeas
6、kingformoredetails,becausetheywereobviouslybad.TherealisationthatIhadanincurabledisease,thatwaslikelytokillmeinafewyears,wasabitofashock.Howcouldsomethinglikethathappentome.WhyshouldIbecutofflikethis.However,whileIhadbeeninhospital,IhadseenaboyIvaguelyknewdieofleukaemia,inthe
