3、emuseumasanever-changingeventspace.Toemphasisetheaspectoftransformabilityofthespacewewouldliketoexplorethepossibilitytoequipthenewmuseumwithsomethinglikea"stage-machinery".Wedevisedaseriesoflarge-scalekineticelementsthatoffertheoptiontoradicallytransformthearrangementofthegalleryspaces.Wewoulda

4、lsoliketomakethisdramatictransformationofthespaceitselfaspectacle,visibleevenontheoutsideappearanceofthebuilding.Thustheinternalreconfigurationoftheexhibitionspacescreatesapublicsensationwithintheurbanscenery.UrbanSettingThegeneroussiteonTaichungkangRoadistiedintoamasterplanoftwocrossingaxestha

5、tgiveanorganisingstructuretotheensembleoffournewlandmarkbuildingsthatshallcomprisetheGuggenheimMuseum,thenewtownhall,thecityassemblyandthenationalopera.Thisarrangementimpliesthatthemuseumwillbeapproachedfromtwomainsides:FromTaichungHarbourRoadontheonesideandfromthecrossingpointofthetwoaxesonthe

6、otherside.Thisdoubleorientationleadstotheideaofalargelobbyspacethatcanbeapproachedfromtwoopposingendsandthuscutsapublicpaththroughthemuseum.Muchoftheinternalorganisationofthemuseumfollowsfromthisinitialmove,motivatedbytheurbanconfiguration.Wedecidedtobendtheaxisoftheprojectsothatthebuildingthru

7、stsdiagonallythroughthesitetowardsthecornerofTaichungHarbourRoadandHuiChungRoad.Thuswepullawayfromtheneighbouringbuildingseastofoursite.Hereweproposetocutanewroadinordertoclearlyseparateanddefineoursite.ArchitecturalFormThebuildin
