3、terialforhighwaypavements.Accordingtoa1998USEPAestimate,atotalof196milliontonsofC&DwastesweregeneratedintheU.S.in1996,outofwhich24-66%wereconcretematerials.Regionally,datafromFloridaDepartmentofEnvironmentalProtection(FDEP)indicatesthatnearly25%oftheMunicipalSolidWaste(MSW)streaminFlo
4、ridacomprisesofconstructionanddemolition(C&D)wastes,33%ofwhichisconcretematerials.Similarly,duetothewidespreadavailabilityofflyashasawastematerial,anditscementitiouscharacteristicsundercertainconditions,thereislotofpotentialforutilizingflyashasanalternativeconstructionmaterial.Moreove
5、r,a1992USEPAstudyshowedthatalmost20%byvolumeoftheavailablelandfillspaceisoccupiedbywasteplastics.ThecurrentstudycombinesthesethreesolidwastematerialsintoahighperformanceRollerCompactedConcrete,whichisinherentlyresistanttotheformationofloadinducedtensilefractureduetothepresenceofrecycl
6、edplasticstripsactingasmicroreinforcementswithinthebrittlematrix.Someguidelinesareprovidedonthemix-designandpropertiesofthenewcompositeforreadyincorporationintopavementconstruction.Suchinnovativerecyclingofsolidwastesinhighwayapplicationswillconservenotonlyournaturalaggregateresources
