3、ntennaselectionandnoforwardlinkpowercontroloffersperformanceadvantagesovertransmitdiversityschemeswithforwardlinkpowercontrolandnoantennaselection.I.INTRODUCTIONThirdGenerationcellularsystemsareexpectedtoprovideincreasedthroughput,bothforvoiceandpacketdatatransmission.Toachie

4、vethisgoal,wemustovercomethelimitationsinherentinawirelesschannel.Oneofthebiggesthurdlesofmobilecellularcommunicationsisthatofmultipathfading,implyingthat,multiplecopiesofthetransmittedsignalarereceivedwithvaryingamountsofattenuationanddelay.Diversitytechniquesareusuallyemplo

5、yedateitherthetransmitterand/orreceivertoovercometheproblemoffading.Therearemanytechniquesforprovidingdiversityincludingtemporal,frequencyandspatial.Inacdma2000systemthebottleneckincapacityoccursintheforwardlink.ThisisduetothefactthatthereverselinkemploystwoantennasattheBaseS

6、tation(BS)andmaximal-ratio-combiningofthereceivedsignals.Asaresult,transmitdiversityschemesaidinbalancingtheforwardandreverselinks.ThreeschemesfortransmitdiversityareOrthogonalTransmitDiversity(OTD)[1],Time-SwitchedTransmitDiversity(TSTD)[4],andSelectionTransmitDiversity(STD)

7、[3].Itisunclearastowhichoftheseschemesachievesthebesttradeofperformanceimprovementvsimplementationcomplexity.Inthispaperwepresenttheresultsofsimulationsoftheaboveschemesunderthecontextofacdma20003xphysicallayer.Theremainderofthepaperisorganizedasfollows.Section2givesadescript
