3、thingsbasedonfeaturesthattheyhaveincommon.Thisapproachisfamiliartoeveryoneforplants,animals,andchemicals.Suchorganizationeilstructureshavealsobeenusedforhardwareandotherobviouslysimilarproductswithinthemanufacturingworld.Grouptechnologyrepresentsstructuredcatego
4、rizationofparticularvaluetothememufacturingcommunity.Itisalreadywidelyused;perhaps50%ofmanufacturingcompaniesusesomeformofGT.Bathorlotproductionsuffersfrommanyinefficienciesduetopartvarietyandthegeneral-purposenatureflexibilityrequirementsofmachinetoolsinuseonth
5、eshopfloor.Infact,aCincirmatiMilacronstudyshowedthat95%ofthetimeapartspendsontheshopfloorisidletime,theother5%isdividedbetweensetupandteardownofthemachinetool.Thefuturebreakdownofthe5%ofon-machinetimewasdevelopedbyDunlap.Basedonthisestimate,only24%ofthe5%istimew
